Andrea and Jim Hillery were high school classmates at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School and never really hung around in the same circle of friends until a scheduled senior trip to New Orleans in the spring of 1985. Andrea and Jim were assigned to the same dinner table and really connected with each other. They decided on their trip that they would go to their senior prom together. Jim says, "we decided to go to prom with each other but no expectations beyond that. However, we enjoyed each other's company and this year we will be married for 29 years!"
Andrea, Jim and their family have continued to be very committed to STVM! Jim says, "for me, giving to the school has truly been a family affair. My parents, Tom Hillery VM51 and Joellen Wargo Hillery VM51 were always financial supporters of the school. My sister Kyle Hillery Freeman VM73 is an active donor, along with my sister in-law, Cindy DeBona Shaffer VM74 brother-n-law, Marty Shaffer VM74 who are also consistent financial and event supporters of STVM."
Through Andrea and Jim's close family ties to the school and the rest of the STVM Community, they knew they wanted to create a legacy gift for St. Vincent-St. Mary High School. Jim says, "for 16 years, I had the opportunity to serve as the Board Chairman for the STVM Athletic Booster Club. While in that role, I became aware of the "needs" that were not always covered by team budgets. As a Club, we generated income from memberships and special event fundraisers. The support we received was frequently from the same participants and my thoughts were often, how can we generate income in other ways? The Legacy Gift program is a great opportunity for me and my wife Andrea to satisfy that thought."
In 2016, Andrea and Jim included STVM as part of their estate plans and to create a future gift for the school. Jim jokes, "I hope the school doesn't get to realize our gift for a long-time but Andrea and I are happy to make this commitment to the school."
Jim continues to partner with STVM through his company, Proforma ASAP. Jim says, "As a supporter, attending events at STVM is has always been an opportunity for entertainment and an escape from the daily grind while also establishing and maintaining friendships with others of all ages and backgrounds. Professionally, I have been fortunate to be counted on as a supplier for a wide variety of advertising, marketing and brand merchandise needs for the school events and operations. This experience has been a great example of the STVM community supporting one of their own and is very much appreciated."
Andrea and Jim are proud of what STVM has given them and what it will offer future students. Jim says, "there are so many good things to share about the student experience, quality staff and community. Equally as important to keep pace with the student experience is to continually improve technology capabilities and maintaining and improving the facilities." Jim adds, "these are the interests that are important to me and Andrea and we are happy to be part the continued growth at STVM."
